The Coakham Bloodhounds hunt the natural scent of man and therefore are always looking for keen runners who are able to run and be hunted by the hounds. We prefer to keep the Quarry runners to four or less as the hounds become more confused if there are too many runners.
Our Quarry must be fit and able to withstand all weathers as hunting takes place during the winter months.
There are four quarry Captains, Garth, Adrian, Mel and Chris. One or more will be running each day so there is normally a space or two for anyone who wants to learn the art of running for a pack of bloodhounds. As you will discover it is not just a case of running off across the countryside !
Our Quarry wear shorts, a good windproof - waterproof top, running shoes with a good cross-country grip for all terrains and ground conditions and hat and gloves if cold.
It is necessary to carry a bum bag with the reward for the hounds which the runners give to them at the end of each hunt. Don't forget to bring a change of clothes to go home in.
The Quarry captain of the day will explain what will happen, listen to him. The quarry run as a group so will be running at the speed of the slowest runner so you will not get left behind! Safety and Welfare of the hounds is the most important factor which is why Quarry must adhere to the Quarry Captain's instructions at all times.
Liking dogs is very important so if you do and can run while reading a map, would enjoy seeing parts of the English countryside that you would not be allowed to run through, why not come along and enjoy the sunshine and get wet and cold and covered in mud. After hunting there is tea for everyone.
